Spring Break Travels

.BARCELONA.
The entrance to Park Guell by Gaudi.

Ev by one of the cool statues.

 Climbing skills.

 Great view of the city.

 Great mosaics.

Sandbag method...thank you Arch History.

Evan eating "snot" (oysters...he claimed they tasted badly).

 Sagrada Familia.

 The lighting design was perfect.

And the interiors were amazing.

Everything was inspired by nature.

The building has been in construction since 1882 and will take another 2 decades.

They were making a digital printed model...very impressive.

The dragon fruit I ate on the beach.

We had to go to the BCN Ice Bar!

It was pretty awesome!

.PARIS.
There was some kind of road rally outside of the Eiffel.

Arch de Triumph.

 Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I loved the lighting in the underground tunnel to get to the Arch de Triumph.

The awesome elevator in the Louvre.

Ev in the Napoleon Apartments at the Louvre.

On our walk to the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Ev outside of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

The inside was even more beautiful at night time!

 The stained glass was amazing.

Outside of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

I thought the reflections in the rain were cool.

Trying to get used to my camera settings!

We decided to go up to the top at night due to rain in the afternoon.

 It was beautiful lit up!

Looking up the lift on the way up.

 The inside of the platform.

 Breathtaking.

Every hour after nine, the lights flash.

.ATHENS.
 The view from our hotel.

 The Olympic Stadium.

 Stone water fountain.

Unbelievable.

 Sitting in the royalty chairs.

The two-headed statue, representing the beginning and ending stages of an athlete's life.

 The athlete tunnel.

Olympic torches.

The positive side to the height difference :)

Typical.

 University of Athens.

 The was graffiti EVERYWHERE.

Market streets where pretty much anything was sold.

There seriously was not a clean wall (or glass) anywhere...

Public plaza...the Acropolis is in the background.

The meat market was an eye opening experience.

Hadrian's Arch at the Temple of Zeus.

Think they were talking to Americans?

 Temple of Zeus.

 It was spectacular.

It was amazing how perfect the columns have fallen.

We ate a traditional Greek lunch.

 Best Greek beer ever!

 First Greek gyro meal! Delicious.

The Acropolis Museum...notice the plastered display versus the real stone.

 It overlooked the actual site.

The reason there are plaster displays is because Britain refuses to give the real ones back...they are currently housed at the British Museum (BM).

View of the city from the Museum.

 Rough day at the Acropolis.

It was an amazing view of the entire city.

Although the Parthenon is currently under construction, it was amazing.

Definitely made us appreciate our Architecture History classes.

There was security walking around making sure the pictures being taken were up to their standards...it was very odd. They would not allow peace signs or people to jump in pictures.

Greg was being a daredevil.

The scale of the Parthenon was incredible.

Temple of Erechtheion.

Church off in the distance...wanted to try out the zoom lens.

Doric columns.

This hill was next to the Acropolis and a popular place to view the city.

The Olympic Pavilion Arena by the coast...I had to visit this for my research. Evan was a trooper and got up at 6 am to go with me. It  was very sad to see how the buildings are no longer and use and wasting space. People were living in the parking lot in their cars.

The positive side to getting up early was the sunrise.

Old "reliever" paths on the Olympic Port.

As you see, it is very run down--crazy considering the Olympics were in 2004.

.GREEK ISLAND OF SANTORINI.
The side of the island our hotel was on...not too shabby.

The view was even better! The volcano is the focal point with a hot springs behind it.

Country side of Santorini.

We rented a four wheeler and seriously drove around the entire island...it was awesome.

The white beach.

View of the city behind us.

Dorky helmet!

Not a bad end to the day!

Typical Greek breakfast...BREAD.

The streets were very narrow.

Ev and I went to the black beach for lunch.

Stunning.

Santorini has red, white, and black beaches based upon the location to the volcano.

It was 5 o'clock somewhere.

Traditional greek salad.

Evan's first mussel experience. Seafood pizza.

Every place we ate brought out a complimentary dessert drink.

Our waiter told us that Santorini has over 3 million tourists during the hot season.

Dangerous duo.

Rocks on the white beach.

Olive farm.

On our way to Oia to see the sunset.

The lands were terraced.

Beautiful place to watch the sun set!

I made Ev wear his helmet, even though it wasn't big enough.

A boating port...you can see the beautiful red rock.

There were some cute restaurants back in the port area.

Evan was a little big for the four wheeler :)
